| Synopsis The film Life Passion Death reveals the experience of a woman, Angela, full of dreams and passion for traveling and writing. Angela grows up in a small town in Spain where people remain all their lives in close emotional and physical proximity to their families. Only a few adventuresome souls like Angela are motivated to search for something beyond their comfortable small-town existence. Ultimately, Angela must choose between her passion or life in her home town near her family. Angela visits friends in New York before her wedding to her life-long boyfriend and meets a successful Wall Street banker, Joseph, who falls in love with her. With Joseph Angela also finds love and embarks on a new life in the big city. Over time Angela struggles with the difficulties she encounters living far away from her family as a Spanish woman in a markedly different culture married to an American with different values. Words of Director While not exactly autobiographical, the film does parallel experiences in Angela’s life with those of mine. The tragic situation ending was inspired by the true story of a personal friend, but names and characters are purely fictional. One night, while walking along Times Square with Joseph, Angela serendipitously bumps into Mr. Smith, an editor, who eventually reviews and decides to publish her book. I personally find Times Square to be magical place, especially at night. That made this location perfect for the chance encounter of Angela and Mr. Smith. In one phone conversation from New York, Angela tells her mother that New York is the place where dreams come true. New York means for Angela the city where she finds love, success and tragedy. Life Passion Death opens in the small town of Callosa de Segura, near the Mediterranean coast of Spain, where I really was raised and my large family still lives. It shows a beautiful nearby fishing village, Santa Pola, where the daily catch produces the finest seafood that I have tasted (even compared to the best restaurants of New York and Paris). It also features the Spanish city of Alicante, rich in culture, castles, gastronomy, and spectacular white sandy beaches. In the film Angela cooks “arroz con costra” a typical dish from the region. Lastly, the film centerpiece is New York, the greatest city of the world. | Production photos Production notes Cast & Crew Main page | |
